not-for-profit organization providing North Shore, Massachusetts communities with resources for cancer treatment, prevention and education.
Founded in 1944 by Carolyn Engler, Boston North Cancer Association has provided more than $1M in funding for cancer treatment, prevention, and educational programs and services to benefit North Shore residents.These include:
- Free support groups and educational workshops
- Updated cancer treatment and equipment at North Shore hospitals
- Professional development funds for medical and paramedical practitioners
- College and medical school scholarships

Third Annual Hope Begins Here Awards Reception

This year’s event will honor Dr. Karen Krag as the Boston North Cancer Association's 2013 Hope Begins Here Award honoree. Dr. Krag, a medical oncologist and hematologist at Massachusetts General North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, has been caring for North Shore cancer patients with extraordinary dedication for more than 20 years. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she completed a residency in medical oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Dr. Krag is board certified in internal medicine and medication oncology and specializes in gynecologic malignancies and the treatment of breast cancer. Active in promoting good health in the community, she is a highly respected expert in the field of breast oncology.
